ssgt matthew boyd picStaff Sergeant Boyd was born on 10 March, 1990 in Oceanside, CA.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 3 November, 2008 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California.  After graduating recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California.  Following completion of MCT, he attended MOS Motor Vehicle Operators Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  Upon completion of his training he was assigned the MOS of 3531 Motor Vehicle Operator.

In June 2009, Private First Class Boyd received orders to Weapons Field Training Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA.  During this time, PFC Boyd served as a Motor Vehicle Operator.  He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in August 2009.

In December 2010, Lance Corporal Boyd received orders to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. During this time, Lance Corporal Boyd served as a Motor Vehicle Operator and Dispatcher. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in April 2011. 

In June 2011, Corporal Boyd received orders to Truck Company Alpha, Head Quarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division.  During which time, Corporal Boyd was attached to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines and received orders to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from February 2012 to September 2012.  During this time, Corporal Boyd served as On Vehicle Equipment NCO, Quality Control NCO, and Line NCO while stateside.  During the deployment, Corporal Boyd served as Motor Vehicle Operator, Gunner, Vehicle Commander, Load Master, Security Team Leader, Assistant Convoy Commander, and Convoy Commander.  

In July 2013, Corporal Boyd received orders to Marine Corps Base Camp Butler Okinawa, Head Quarters and Service Battalion, Alpha Company.  During this time, Corporal Boyd served as QC Chief, Chief Dispatcher, Road Master, and Platoon Sergeant. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 2014.

In July of 2015, Sergeant Boyd reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.  Upon graduation, Sergeant Boyd was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion.  During this time, Sergeant Boyd served as Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Operations Chief.  He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in October 2018.

In November 2018, Staff Sergeant Boyd received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 272.  During this time, Staff Sergeant Boyd served as Platoon Sergeant, Motor Transport Operations Chief, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In December 2020, Staff Sergeant Boyd received orders to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines.  During this time, Staff Sergeant Boyd deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program-Okinawa and participated in Operation Fuji Viper.  During this time, Staff Sergeant Boyd served as Motor Transport Operations Chief.

In March 2022, Staff Sergeant Boyd received orders to his current unit at the University of Utah NROTC as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor.  Staff Sergeant Boyd is married to Samantha Boyd. They have two sons, Kayden and Daniel.  His personal decorations include the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with 1 gold star in lieu of second award), Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
